The Canadiens have agreed to a one-year contract with Kreider for the 2026-27 season, the team announced on Saturday.
Kreider spent last year with the Anaheim Ducks after 13 seasons with the New York Rangers. He was waived by the Ducks for the purposes of contract termination on Wednesday in an effort to ease their salary-cap crunch.
The 36-year-old skated in 75 games last season, registering 22 goals and 28 assists. He has not dipped below the 20-goal mark in any season since 2017-18.
Kreider could reach the 1,000-game milestone with the Canadiens as he enters this season at 958. He has 348 goals and 284 assists.
The Boxford, Mass. native will bring a veteran presence to the Canadiens roster that is coming off an Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
Kreider has been booed in Montreal since colliding with Carey Price during a playoff series with the Rangers in 2014. Price did not play again that spring because of a resulting knee injury.
