Canada reaches Round of 16—diving debate erupts

Congratulations to our Canadian “heroes” who did our country proud by advancing all the way to the Round of 16 at the World Cup. But I have to agree with the letter writer who said this sport is just too painful to watch. To see a professional athlete, after a slight nick, collapse to the pitch, rolling over and back, arms and legs flailing in the air with a face crying out with tortured agony from his apparent “injury”, is silly enough. Then to see
the same wounded, barely alive player, seconds later, pop back up and scoot down the field is purely farcical. Perhaps we should call the game “The Beautiful Dive”. STUART MURRAY OTTAWA AMERICAN WENT HOME — GET OVER IT Re: Quit on Sens long time ago, letter to the editor, online, June 28 Yes, it’s over. Get over it. Brady Tkachuk was an American playing in Ottawa until something better came along. Both his and his wife’s families all live in the U.S. He simply returned
home. Many people living here do not consider Canada their true home, either. So, leave. Avid sports spectators need to acknowledge that players, regardless of the sport, are contract performers for profit and public amusement. If you love the sport, get off your butt and play it. Waving and roaring in the stands like trained seals is not participation. It is mass hysteria. DYAN CROSS OTTAWA HAVE YOUR SAY Your letters are welcome, at: OttSun.Oped@sunmedia.ca. Canada World Cup Round of 16, soccer diving, Stuart Murray, Brady Tkachuk, Dyan Cross, Ottawa letters
Bro soccer players always fake it, it’s literally all the time.
I get being mad about diving, but also… sometimes guys really do get hurt and then act fine after like 10 seconds. The whole thing is painful to watch either way.
Stuart Murray sounds like he’s mad Canada made it farther, like that’s the reason the player fell over. Brady Tkachuk thing is totally separate tho right? Also why are we telling people to “leave” like that’s normal?
World Cup = dramatic rolling and then sprinting again, yeah I’ve noticed that too. But calling it “The Beautiful Dive” is kinda weird like ok cool. Also the letter about Ottawa American went home… I thought that was about hockey? Like Tkachuk is in the NHL so not even the same sport, unless this is all mixed up in my head.
