Cam Skattebo vows same violent style after ankle
Giants running back Cam Skattebo says the gruesome ankle injury that ended his rookie season won’t change the way he plays. He credits new head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy with keeping him supported as he returns, insisting he’ll be
Cam Skattebo still thinks about the moment his rookie season stopped short.
In Week Eight, the Giants running back suffered a gruesome ankle injury that abruptly ended what had been a promising start. Now that he’s talking about his return, he’s making one thing clear: he doesn’t plan to change the identity that made him stand out in the first place.
Skattebo says the injury won’t affect how he plays or what he brings to the run game. He doesn’t describe fear when he talks about it—he frames the ankle as something that happened, then moves on to what’s next.
“It ain’t gonna change who I am,” Skattebo told NFL Media. “I had an injury, you know, it is what it is. I’ve still got plenty of football left. plenty of life left. I’m not going to let this little ankle thing bother me. I’m going to get back [to] running people over like you see on the videos. It’s going to be normal Cam Skattebo from here on out.”.
His confidence is rooted in how he’s always attacked contact: Skattebo’s style is built around putting his head down, initiating contact with tacklers, and pushing through contact rather than avoiding it.
He also says the Giants’ staff has helped him during the recovery process and that the message from the top has been consistent. Skattebo points directly to head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy for staying engaged as he works his way back.
“Coach Harbaugh and Nagy, I’ve felt nothing but support and love from them,” Skattebo said. “They’re always on me about getting back. and they’re starting to see where I’m at in my process and they’re starting to trust it. They’ve been really good to me. I trust both of those two, as [well] as everybody else on the staff. It’s been nothing but joy and happiness for me. just starting to fall back in love with the game after an injury for sure.”.
Before the injury, Skattebo had exceeded expectations as a fourth-round pick last year. He appeared poised to become a bright spot in a season that ultimately turned out disappointing for the Giants—exactly the kind of momentum he believes he’ll be able to reclaim once he’s healthy.
With his ankle recovery underway, Skattebo’s message is simple and pointed: the injury might have taken him away from the field, but it won’t reshape his approach. He’s ready to pick up right where he left off—and run through defenders like he’s been doing all along.

Bro sounds like he’s gonna go run people over again. Love the attitude.
I mean an ankle injury can change everything though, right? Like “doesn’t plan to change” sounds good but bodies don’t care. Also John Harbaugh?? why does every team keep getting Harbaugh coach news lol.
ngl I thought Cam got hurt like for the year, so the fact he’s talking already is wild. “Normal Cam” like it’s just a mood swap. But if his ankle is still messed up, putting his head down into tacklers seems like asking for round two injury… just saying.
This is why I don’t get the NFL sometimes. He says it won’t change him, but it literally ended his rookie season like… injuries always mess with your decisions even if you don’t admit it. And “videos”?? I saw one clip where somebody went down weird and everyone acted like it was fine. Hope he’s actually healed, but I’m also scared the coaching support is just PR speak.
