Cabrera leaves Cubs–Brewers game with blister trouble

Cubs right-hander Edward Cabrera exited Wednesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers after leaving a blister on his right middle finger. His departure followed one pitch in the fourth inning, adding to a season already strained by rotation injuries.
CHICAGO — Edward Cabrera didn’t even get to finish the fourth inning. The Cubs right-hander walked off the mound with a trainer after one pitch, then left Wednesday night’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers because of a blister on his right middle finger.
The injury snapped the night after Cabrera threw a 92.5 mph fastball to Joey Ortiz. From the mound, he immediately moved into the kind of sideline scene no pitcher wants to see in mid-recovery — hands adjusted, attention focused, the test of velocity turning into a test of pain.
Cabrera’s outing ended with four runs charged, one earned, and four hits allowed. He struck out two and walked two.
The timing landed in a season already heavy on pitching setbacks for Chicago. The Cubs have been hit hard by injuries, particularly in their rotation. Matthew Boyd is working his way back after surgery on his left knee. Cade Horton is out for the season after elbow surgery. Justin Steele’s timeline remains uncertain after a setback in his recovery from an elbow injury.
Cabrera, too, comes with a history that raises the stakes beyond this one inning. He was acquired in a January trade with Miami, and during his time with the Marlins he had repeated issues with blisters on his right middle finger.
In a bullpen day that could quickly become a rotation problem, the blister on Cabrera’s middle finger isn’t just a medical note. It’s another reminder that for the Cubs, every additional injury changes who can pitch — and when — long before the season has given them much room to absorb it.

Blisters are the worst, like how do you even play with that??
I swear the Cubs can’t catch a break, it’s always someone’s elbow or a blister or whatever. Next man up but it feels like there is no “next” anymore.
Wait so he left after ONE pitch? That seems kinda weird to me unless it was like a serious tendon thing, not a blister. Also didn’t this happen to him in Miami, so maybe he should’ve used different tape or something?
This rotation is cursed. First Boyd, then Horton, then Steele… and now Cabrera can’t even get through the 4th because of a blister on his middle finger?? Sounds like pitching is just pain management this season, idk. Brewers probably celebrating but it’s really sad for Chicago.
