More evacuation orders for Brunswick Creek fire expand

The Brunswick Creek wildfire north of Boston Bar in the Fraser Canyon has grown to 100 hectares and prompted expanded evacuation orders and alerts from the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) and Boothroyd Indian Band. The FVRD has expanded an evacuation order to include dozens of properties in Electoral Area “A” in North Bend and along Chaumox Road on the west side of the Fraser River. The community of Boston Bar, on the east side of the Fraser, is under evacuation alert. The Boothroyd Indian
Band has also issued an evacuation order. Anyone living in an area under evacuation order must leave immediately. A temporary reception centre for evacuees has been set up at the Hope Recreation Centre, and will be open as of 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 5. Residents whose properties are under evacuation alert should be ready to leave on short notice. The fire is burning on the opposite side of the river to the Trans-Canada Highway, which remains open. However, the fire is producing thick smoke
which can be seen as far away as Kamloops, Merritt, and the Okanagan. Drivers are urged to use caution, and to check DriveBC for any road closures. The Brunswick Creek wildfire was first reported on July 2. BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) has listed it as a Wildfire of Note, and stated that it is considered out of control, which means a fire that is anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter or fire line. The fire is suspected to have been human-caused. BCWS crews are
continuing to assist the Boston Bar Fire Department in responding to the fire. In addition to Boston Bar firefighters, there are three BCWS initial attack crews, two unit crews, and two response officers on scene, with support from aviation resources (including two groups of helicopters equipped with night vision) and heavy equipment. Aviation support made good progress overnight on July 4–5, bucketing the head of the fire. It will continue to support ground crews on July 5, who will be working along the north and
south flanks of the fire. Heavy equipment will be used to work on a guard to the west of the fire. Heavy winds gusting to 40-50 km/h on the afternoon of July 4 caused an increase in fire behaviour and size. Winds also resulted in several spot fires to the north of the Brunswick Creek wildfire, to which crews are also responding. So it’s 100 hectares now?? That’s like… basically nothing right??
Why do they keep saying “human-caused” like they’re not sure. If it started from someone, shouldn’t they name the person or at least arrest them? Also the smoke is everywhere on the news.
My cousin said the TCH was closed because of this fire, so I don’t get it. Article says highway open but thick smoke seen all the way to the Okanagan… like which one is it? People should just stay put if their house is on the east side I guess?
“Out of control” doesn’t mean out of control, it just means out of control for the camera lol. Gusts 40-50 km/h—so basically it’s just windy season. Hope the helicopters with night vision can fly in the daytime too, because I can’t imagine that “guard” west of the fire stops anything.
