Broncos head coach Sean Payton broke down his recent comments directed at Geoff Schwartz following his take on QB Bo Nix.
The Denver Broncos face some difficult roster decisions now that the preseason is in the rearview mirror. Denver is preparing for a bounce-back campaign in 2026 as QB Bo Nix gets healthy following last year’s ankle injury. Head coach Sean Payton does not want to hear Nix slander just before the regular season.
Payton was not shy sharing his opinion about FOX Sports analyst Geoff Schwartz on social media recently. He took issue with Schwartz’s assessment of Nix during a recent segment on FS1. Schwartz said he sees Nix as the same player that he was during his college career at Oregon.
“I do think he just is what he is at this point. He looks like the same quarterback he was in college,” Schwartz said on August 26th. “He’s consistent. He’s not gonna make mistakes. But he’s not gonna push the ball down the field all that often.”
Payton posted a dismissive message in reply to Schwartz’s analysis, quipping “always easy to tell who works at it and who doesn’t.”
Denver’s head coach broke down that comments in further details after Friday’s big preseason win.
“That was crazy wasn’t it? I can’t help myself though. When I see something like that, I’m sorry. It’s just, I have a pause and then it’s like, ‘What are you watching?’ Just watch the tape,” Payton said during his postgame press conference. “Here’s the thing though. I think—and this is for any player—sometimes when you’re on the East Coast, you don’t see, whatever, but when you get to see… I remember the first time I ever saw a Percy Harvin or Adrian Peterson, it was completely different than… So to see someone live and to actually watch them is…”
Payton also made a reference to “the basement podcast with the beer logo” when talking about the variations of takes on the NFL. Schwartz does not fall into that category, especially as an eight-year NFL veteran.
Ultimately, Payton once again showed his devotion to Nix ahead of a crucial 2026 season for the organization.
