Brockton woman identified after Lakeville jet ski death

Brockton woman – Authorities identified Daisha Murphy, 25, of Brockton, as the woman who drowned after falling off a jet ski on Long Pond in Lakeville. Investigators said she was not wearing a life jacket and an ongoing probe remains underway.

The water on Long Pond turned deadly in a matter of seconds.

Authorities identified the victim as 25-year-old Daisha Murphy, a Brockton resident, who died after falling off a jet ski in Lakeville this week. Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz’s office said the incident happened shortly after 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, when Freetown police received a 911 call.

The caller reported seeing people riding on two jet skis while they were boating on Long Pond in Lakeville. The caller observed a jet ski with two female riders on it tip over. One of the riders did not resurface.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene. State Police, Environmental Police, Lakeville police and Freetown police all responded to Long Pond. They were unable to locate Murphy at the time.

Murphy’s body was eventually found around 12:40 a.m. Wednesday by the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council’s marine unit. Cruz’s office said the body was found about 125 yards from the shore in about five feet of water.

Authorities said Murphy was not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident. An investigation is ongoing.

  1. These jet ski things are way more dangerous than people think. I saw a video once where it flips and you’re done in like seconds. Also why are they out there without life jackets…

  2. Wait so they “couldn’t locate her” for hours but they found her at 12:40?? Five feet of water doesn’t sound deep at all, unless the current was moving or something. I hate how the story says it turned deadly in seconds like that’s supposed to explain it.

  3. Not wearing a life jacket is wild… but also jet skis tip over all the time if people are messing around. Long Pond in Lakeville is like a tourist spot right? I feel like there should be some enforcement or better signage or they just expect people to know. Prayers to her family though, just sucks.
