Protesters vow Palma standstill on July 26

On Sunday, the Menys Turisme, Més Vida collective called for a demonstration on July 26 that will “bring Palma to a standstill”. A spokesperson for Less Tourism, More Life, David Comas, said that the Balearics are heading towards a “decisive” and extremely difficult summer. The current political landscape, marked by upcoming elections, compels citizens to “point the finger at all the political figures responsible” for unsustainable management of tourism. Comas pointed out that there will be an exceptional factor this summer – the total eclipse

of the sun on August 12. This has dramatically increased the number of expected visitors. “Hotel reservations are already completely full for the day of the eclipse, which will completely overwhelm Mallorca.” The planned demonstration will not focus solely on overtourism as it will also be on the impact that the tourism model has on living and working conditions – the extreme vulnerability of thousands of workers, the soaring real estate market and the proliferation of holiday rentals which have made access to housing a

pipe dream. “Becoming independent and finding decent housing on this island is now impossible.” Despite the large protests in 2024 and 2025, Menys Turisme, Més Vida point to worsening conditions for residents. People are “fed up” and so they promise to maintain pressure on the streets until the authorities listen to their demands. The main demonstration for this summer has been scheduled for the end of July, more than a month later than last year. This will allow time for a series of actions leading

up to the Palma demonstration and which are due to be in various towns across Mallorca.
