The Brewers have re-signed veteran right-handed reliever Bryse Wilson to a one-year deal, three days after designating him for assignment.
The Milwaukee Brewers have brought back right-handed reliever Bryse Wilson on a one-year contract, just three days after designating him for assignment. The team announced the move Tuesday before its game against the San Diego Padres, with Wilson returning to the active roster. To clear room, Milwaukee designated right-hander Lyon Richardson for assignment.
The Brewers’ latest transaction reverses Saturday’s roster decision, when Milwaukee designated Wilson and selected Richardson’s contract from Triple-A Nashville. Wilson had pitched three innings and thrown 34 pitches the previous Friday, making the move primarily a matter of bullpen availability rather than performance.
Since joining the Brewers shortly before the All-Star break, Wilson has made six appearances and covered 13⅔ innings. He has allowed four runs, produced 10 strikeouts and issued no walks, giving him a 2.63 ERA. His only difficult appearance came July 29 against the San Francisco Giants, while his other outings provided Milwaukee with reliable relief innings.
The 28-year-old has also been particularly more effective with the Brewers than elsewhere in his career. Across 93 appearances for Milwaukee spanning 2023-24 and this season, Wilson owns a 3.37 ERA. His ERA has exceeded 5.00 with every other team he has played for, aside from a single appearance with the Philadelphia Phillies earlier this season. Wilson has appeared for six teams overall and three during the 2026 season, including two games with the Chicago Cubs and one with the Phillies before returning to Milwaukee.
Wilson cleared waivers after Saturday’s designation but elected free agency after being optioned to Nashville. Because he is out of minor-league options, the Brewers could not simply send him down again without exposing him to waivers.
Richardson, meanwhile, is also out of options. He pitched 1⅔ scoreless innings Monday against the Padres, allowing one walk and recording one strikeout during Milwaukee’s 3-2 loss. Earlier this season, he surrendered five runs over 1⅔ innings in two appearances with the Cincinnati Reds, where he had a 6.67 ERA across 56⅔ career innings.
