Brewers crush Giants 16-2 as Turang ends skid

Brewers crush – Brice Turang snapped an 0-for-21 slump with two hits, including a double and a two-run triple, as the Milwaukee Brewers routed the San Francisco Giants 16-2 on Monday night.

MILWAUKEE — For Brice Turang, the moment didn’t start with a swing that felt destined. It started with the relief of seeing something go right after an 0-for-21 slump.

Monday night, that slump ended quickly. Turang went 2 for 2 with a double and a triple in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 16-2 blowout of the San Francisco Giants. He also worked a pair of walks to reach base in all four plate appearances.

Milwaukee scored a season-high 16 runs on 18 hits, without hitting a home run. The Brewers walked 11 times, matching a season high, and they didn’t waste the chances once they found the throttle.

The offensive surge was capped by a second-inning explosion that began after the Giants led 2-0. Milwaukee scored seven runs off Landen Roupp in that inning, turning the game into a runaway.

Christian Yelich and David Hamilton each finished 3 for 5 for the Brewers, both scoring three runs. Yelich drove in two. Luis Rengifo also scored three, and Jackson Chourio added a 2-for-4 night with three RBIs.

Turang’s damage came right in the middle of the rally. He doubled in the first inning, then hit a two-run triple off the center-field wall in the second. Later in the inning, Milwaukee tacked on more runs when a William Contreras sacrifice fly brought in the Brewers’ final run of the frame.

The rally included a stretch where six straight Brewers reached base during the seven-run outburst. Sal Frelick doubled home Jake Bauers, Rengifo singled home Frelick, and Hamilton beat out a bunt hit. Roupp walked Yelich to load the bases before Chourio doubled home two runs.

Even as the score swung. the scene around the game had its own detail: a giant version of the Pablo Sanchez character from the Backyard Baseball promotion sat in the front row next to the Brewers dugout. The Brewers are giving out a Pablo Sanchez bobblehead as part of a Backyard Baseball promotion Wednesday.

On the mound, Roupp was tagged for a career-high eight runs over four innings. His five walks also matched a career high.

Christian Yelich and the rest of Milwaukee’s lineup didn’t let up. The Brewers won their sixth game in seven. The Giants, meanwhile, have lost six of seven.

Buddy Kennedy, an infielder called up to the majors earlier in the day, pitched the eighth inning for San Francisco.

Chad Patrick (3-2) earned the win by pitching one scoreless inning in relief of Shane Drohan, who allowed two runs over four innings.

Trevor McDonald (2-2, 4.34) starts for San Francisco, with Kyle Harrison (6-1, 1.57) pitching for Milwaukee on Tuesday.

  1. I saw “Turang ends skid” and was like finallyyyy. But also why are they walking 11 times? That feels like free runs lol. Still glad they did it though.

  2. Backyard Baseball promo with that Pablo Sanchez thing?? That’s the real MVP right there. But seriously though, Giants being up 2-0 then giving up seven in the second… sounds like bad bullpen math or whatever.

  3. Wait so they didn’t hit a home run and still got 16?? That means the Giants defense was totally bailing them out right? Or maybe the triple was like a lucky bounce. Either way I’m just surprised it wasn’t 20+ with all those walks.
