GOOD and RISE Mzansi back Brett Herron for Cape Town mayor

The GOOD Party and RISE Mzansi have officially announced Brett Herron as their joint mayoral candidate for the City of Cape Town. The parties made the announcement in the West Bank on the Cape Flats outside Cape Town. The two parties, along with BOSA, have joined hands under the banner of Unite for Change ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections scheduled for the 4th of November. Brett Herron once served as the Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and later for Transport & Urban
Development while still a member of the Democratic Alliance (DA). After his resignation from the DA, he joined the GOOD Party and is now member of the Provincial Parliament in the Western Cape. GOOD Party leader Patricia de Lille says they come with the experience of all the unfinished business in the City of Cape Town. “Our plan is to take Cape Town beyond the post cards image of being the most beautiful city, but get to the real issues and ensure that all Cape
Townians must have access to dignity, land services, etc.” Rise Mzansi leader, Songezo Zibi, accompanied De Lille to demonstrate his party’s support for the GOOD Party candidate. “Brett Herron has been consistent for nearly 20 years, dealing with issues of special justice, with issues of housing, with issues of the costs of living and affordability for people from different income brackets. He has also studied post grad level about how to run modern cities, so he has taken the trouble to develop himself.” Herron explained
his vision if his party garners enough votes to secure the position of Mayor. “So affordability is about having access to the housing market, to be able to live in a decent area and afford living in the city. Affording electricity, water costs and property rates because the affordability crisis in Cape Town has been ignored by the current government.” Both De Lille and Zibi say their political working relationship is not a once-off arrangement. They say it will continue to exist even after the
November local government elections.
