Brendan Sorsby pushes NCAA for rushed eligibility decision

Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s legal team is asking the NCAA for an expedited ruling on his eligibility reinstatement, warning that a legal challenge is imminent. The process has become urgent as Sorsby’s 2026 plans, including a seven-figure NIL deal,
The clock is ticking for Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby. and his representatives are pushing the NCAA to act faster rather than later.. Sorsby’s lawyers have requested an expedited resolution to his attempt to have his eligibility reinstated. and they also told the NCAA that a legal challenge is “imminent.”
The quarterback’s status became uncertain after an apparent gambling addiction surfaced. a development that led Sorsby to pursue in-patient treatment.. Two weeks ago. additional reports came out that Sorsby hired attorney Jeffrey Kessler to help with his effort to get his football future moving again.
The stakes are tied directly to timing.. Sorsby has a seven-figure NIL deal premised on playing college football in 2026.. If he is not permitted to play college football. he would need a fair chance to timely apply for the NFL’s supplemental draft.. A delay, his camp’s urgency suggests, could push him toward what amounts to a dead-end year for 2026.
There is also friction in how the different institutions could respond.. Sorsby’s situation forces him to balance the expectation of accepting fair consequences tied to his behavior with his right to demonstrate the issue has been resolved and that he deserves another opportunity.. His lawyers want clarity from the NCAA quickly. and he would then need the NFL to handle the supplemental draft process fairly rather than looking for a way to “freeze” him out in order to avoid conflict with the NCAA.
The timeline matters because the NCAA’s uncertainty has the potential to chain into the NFL decision window: an expedited answer could keep his 2026 path viable. while a prolonged hold on eligibility could leave him scrambling to apply to the supplemental draft.. That sequence is what his legal push is meant to prevent, with his NIL deal anchored to the same 2026 deadline.
There is precedent in the way the supplemental draft can be shaped by NCAA outcomes.. When Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor entered the supplemental draft in 2011. the league selected an outcome that simulated the NCAA’s suspension of Pryor and then worked backward to justify it.. If and when Sorsby enters the supplemental draft. he should receive what his legal approach calls for: a clean slate and a fair opportunity to be drafted and to compete.
