For a kindergarten graduation at Queen of the Apostles School in Toledo, Ohio, Thursday morning was supposed to be about smiling families and the next big step for kids. Instead, a seating mix-up ignited a chaotic, violent brawl in the middle of the ceremony.

A dispute over seating arrangements reportedly led some families to start fighting over spots. In a widely shared video, multiple adults can be seen throwing punches, pulling hair, and hurling other adults into the group.

The incident erupted at the school during the annual Kindergarten graduation on Thursday morning. By the time it spilled into a full-on altercation, the stakes were no longer ceremonial. A 26-year-old attendee ended up with a head injury and was rushed to the hospital.

WTOL reported that another attendee, 28-year-old Jessica Anderson, was arrested for assault. In an affidavit, police accused Anderson of grabbing a person’s hair and slamming their head against a chair.

The fallout didn’t stay behind the school doors. Craig Mays told WTOL that his child’s mother was the one rushed to the hospital.

“She got staples in her head. She was bleeding. Her wrist is pretty messed up. Both her knees are pretty bad … so yeah, it was a very bad day for my family.”

In response to the situation, the school said that no Kindergarteners were harmed during the fight.

Even with that reassurance, reactions from parents and community members have continued to focus on how quickly a seating dispute turned into physical violence—at an event meant to celebrate children.

  1. I didn’t even finish reading but brawls at a kids graduation?? That video going around is insane. People are really out here throwing punches over seating like it’s Black Friday.

  2. Wait so the school says no kindergarteners were harmed but there’s still a 26-year-old with a head injury and someone got arrested for hair grabbing and slamming their head on a chair. How does that not count as “no one harmed”?? Sounds like they’re just trying to make it look better.

  3. Toledo is always something. This is why I don’t trust Catholic school events, like everyone thinks they’re better than everyone else and then it turns into a fight. Also “seating mix-up” sounds like an excuse, cuz if you grab hair over chairs you’re already mad about something else, right? Hope that Jessica Anderson lady actually tells her side before everyone jumps on her.
