Boil-water notice issued for Koreatown after E. coli

Los Angeles issued a boil-water notice for a two-block area of Koreatown after a routine test found E. coli. The water issue is limited to a defined area bounded by South Ardmore Avenue, South Mariposa Avenue, West 5th Street, and West 6th Street, and official
On Wednesday, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power crews fanned out through a small stretch of Koreatown, handing out water bottles and knocking on doors—because one routine sample came back positive for E. coli.
The boil-water notice covers a two-block area, the department said, after a positive test result returned Tuesday from a single water quality testing station. LADWP said the finding did not affect any other part of the water distribution system.
Officials also said they have no information on what caused the positive result. They added that the issue is unrelated to the warehouse fire in Boyle Heights, and that “fire-related contaminants” were not found in the water samples.
The department framed the notice as a precaution while additional testing is being done and samples are being collected.
The affected area is bounded by South Ardmore Avenue to the west. South Mariposa Avenue to the east. West 5th Street to the north and West 6th Street to the south. LADWP staff were “out in full force” on Wednesday. passing out water bottles to affected customers and businesses that need ice. and going door to door to hand out information about the notice. the department said on X.
For residents and businesses within those blocks, LADWP directed customers to bring all tap water to a boil for one minute and then let it cool before use.
The guidance applies to water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice cubes, and food preparation. A spokesperson told The Times on Wednesday evening that there was no estimate for when the boil-water notice would be lifted, and that it will remain in place until testing is complete.
Customers will be notified “immediately” when the notice is lifted, the department said.

E. coli again??? Why does this keep happening in LA smh.
They said it’s limited to two blocks but then they’re passing out bottles and knocking on doors, so… how do they know it won’t spread? Either way boil your water right? One test seems kinda random.
Wait so this is because of that Boyle Heights warehouse fire right? Like they said “unrelated” but I swear it’s always connected somehow. If they don’t know the cause then it’s probably the fire contaminants… right?
Boil-water notice in Koreatown for E. coli from a single testing station?? That’s wild. I get it’s precaution but one station sounds like maybe a bad sensor or something. Also nobody ever tells you if your building is included unless you read the map 20 times.
