Former GM and President of Basketball Operations Bob Myers spoke about emotions and if he had to trade one of his stars with the Warriors.
The Golden State Warriors were able to build a dynasty thanks to the on-court wizardry of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green along with the off-court genius of Steve Kerr and Bob Myers.
The group stayed together for years, winning three championship from 2015 to 2018 and a fourth NBA Championship back in 2022.
Former General Manager and President of Basketball Operations Bob Myers, who was with the organization from 2012 to 2023, got a lot of credit for his decisions during the Warriors’ title runs. Now with the Philadelphia 76ers trying to re-create that same magic, Myers has another tough task after adding Jaylen Brown and LeBron James to a Sixers team already led by Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.
Myers recently made an appearance on the Cousins Podcast with Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, where he was asked if he ever let his emotion dictate a move or if he would have.
“It never did, but had I stayed in Golden State, it might have,” Bob Myers told Carter and McGrady. “Okay, like if I had to move off a clay, I might have had a hard time with that. If, if I had been there, and like, I had to do something with Draymond or staff or something like that, that that would have been personal. Yeah. Because of what we went through together. Guys like Iguodala Livingston guys that won multiple championships. If I don’t feel a part, then I what the hell was I do? If I don’t have a relationship with those guys? Now, there’s not 10 of them.
“But there’s a few guys where I would have a hard time, I think I’d still do the right thing for the organization. But it would be really hard to tell a guy like, all that that guy did for my life, my life, like personally, forget about the organization, like, which is what you’re, you’re, you’re hired to do what’s best for the organization when you’re executive, but when you win, and win multiple championships with people that played and gave everything and and made my life changed my life, personally, not the organization’s mine. How can I not let that affect you understand, like, so there would have been, could have been situations where it got there.”

The Warriors still haven’t traded Stephen Curry or Draymond Green, but did part ways with Klay Thompson. It’s clear, however, that all three of those players will retire as members of the Golden State Warriors franchise.
