Bo Bichette’s grand slam and 6 RBIs lift Mets

Bo Bichette capped a wild Friday night at 6 RBIs—matching a career high—while his grand slam and two homers carried the New York Mets past the MLB-leading Atlanta Braves 7-5.

NEW YORK — The night began with rain and a 76-minute delay, but it didn’t take long for Bo Bichette to turn the pause into momentum.

Bichette crushed a grand slam and added a solo home run as the New York Mets beat the MLB-leading Atlanta Braves 7-5 on Friday night. His performance wasn’t just big—it was cleanly efficient in the moments that mattered, as he matched a career high with six RBIs.

This was also the first time Bichette drove in six runs in a game since Aug. 4, 2025, when he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.

His first homer came early: a 383-foot solo shot in the first inning. The second punch landed in the second. a 341-foot slam to right that included the grand slam. giving New York a commanding swing in the middle of the game. That second-inning surge came before Juan Soto’s solo home run in the first.

After the grand slam, Bichette stayed in control. With two out in the second, he delivered the big hit, and later in the fourth he lofted a run-scoring sacrifice fly.

The Braves felt it most when Spencer Strider’s night unraveled. Strider entered with a 4-2 record but left with right arm soreness after facing one batter in the fourth inning. He had a season-high seven-run showing in total. with his velocity dipping into the 87-88 mph range while issuing a leadoff walk to MJ Melendez in the fourth. He finished with three strikeouts.

New York’s bullpen had to hold the lead. Cionel Perez (3-3). the first of four Mets relievers to follow Nolan McLean. earned the win after allowing one run in 1 1/3 innings. McLean gave the Mets four innings. allowing two runs and striking out six. but walked four and threw 93 pitches. including 42 in the second.

Devin Williams took over later and closed it out under pressure. He allowed Eli White’s infield RBI single before securing the final four outs for his 10th save—and his first of longer than three outs since May 28, 2023.

For Atlanta, the loss came with bruising reminders that they can still hurt you when they get rolling. Matt Olson homered, and Dominic Smith, Mike Yastrzemski, and Ozzie Albies all drove in runs with RBI singles.

The Braves dropped their third straight, with Atlanta still holding the NL East lead and boasting the best record in baseball at 45-24.

The schedule now turns quickly. Braves LHP Martín Pérez (4-3, 3.02 ERA) will start Saturday, while the Mets have not announced a starter yet.

  1. Wait so the game was 7-5 but Strider only faced one batter in the 4th?? That sounds like a weird stat error or something. Either way Mets bats were cooking.

  2. I don’t get why they keep saying it was “rain delay momentum” like that’s a thing. Braves were up earlier or whatever, then one sore arm and suddenly Mets win. Also Bo Bichette having six RBIs again like… he’s just always due, right?

  3. Devin Williams closing under pressure is always nerve wracking. I swear every time I watch the Mets it’s bullpen stress mode, but this time it worked. Strider getting arm soreness after 87-88 mph velocity is honestly concerning though… like if he’s hurt hurt, don’t mess around. And 45-24 Braves still losing doesn’t surprise me because MLB teams have those “streaks” and then poof.
