The Toronto Blue Jays reliever recently underwent thoracic outlet surgery in Dallas, manager John Schneider told reporters Tuesday.
García was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome in early August — a condition that occurs when nerves between the collarbone and first rib get squeezed.
The right-hander has yet to pitch in the big-leagues this season as he’s recovered from off-season right elbow surgery.
García has attempted to return to full health throughout this season, but he’s been pulled from multiple rehab assignments with new injuries.
Over nine rehab appearances, he threw 7.2 innings, struck out eight and allowed eight earned runs.
The 35-year-old is in the final year of a two-year, $15-million deal he inked with the Blue Jays before the 2025 season. He’s managed just 22 MLB appearances during this contract, pitching to a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 21 innings last year.
Now, he will hit free agency coming off another season-ending operation.
