The team announced that Guerrero will not be in the lineup, with Kazuma Okamoto taking his spot at first base.
The 27-year-old left Tuesday’s game against the Nationals with right hamstring tightness.
Guerrero appeared to suffer the injury when running the bases in the top of the third inning.
After hitting a groundball to third base, Guerrero was able to advance to second on a throwing error by Jorbit Vivas. When he rounded first, Guerrero looked to have some discomfort on his face as he made his way to second.
He stayed in the game for the remainder of the inning and also came back out on defence for the bottom of the third. He was replaced by Okamoto at first base in the bottom of the fourth.
“It was a little sore, he wanted to stay in, but it was my call just to be careful with him and not have anything worse happen,” manager John Schneider said after the game about Guerrero’s injury. “He checked out pretty good and we’ll see how he is tomorrow.”
Guerrero was 1-for-2 at the plate before being forced to exit. Schneider said the short turnaround before the afternoon start could factor into the decision.
The injury is another snag in what has been a disappointing season for the 27-year-old slugger.
After a sensational 2025 post-season where he won the ALCS MVP and helped the Blue Jays come within one win of a World Series title, Guerrero failed to carry that momentum over into 2026.
He entered Tuesday’s game slashing .264/.344./.365 with just six home runs over 102 games.
