The 26-year-old rookie will start the finale of their three-game series against the Texas Rangers on Sunday, the Blue Jays announced Saturday night.
Miles will make his ninth start of the season, and it will be the Blue Jays’ 23rd bullpen game of the season. They’ve gone 12-10 when deploying the strategy so far.
It stands to reason that Miles won’t pitch deep into the game, as he hasn’t exceeded two innings or 44 pitches since July 22.
The Rule-5 draft pick has been a success story for the Blue Jays this season, pitching to a 2.65 ERA with 87 strikeouts and 24 walks over 91.2 innings while shifting between a multi-inning role and traditional relief.
He had pitched only 14.2 minor-league innings before making his MLB debut this year, and is now third among active Blue Jays in innings pitched.
Spencer Arrighetti is expected to serve as a bulk arm behind Miles. The 26-year-old righty has a 4.90 ERA with 104 strikeouts and 62 walks over 108.1 innings this season.
Arrighetti has struggled since joining the Blue Jays at the trade deadline, missing time with Morton’s neuroma and pitching to a 6.20 ERA over six appearances since getting healthy.
The Blue Jays are one game behind the Rangers and three games back of the Chicago White Sox for the final American League wild-card spot.
