Blue Jays shift Patrick Corbin to bullpen for finale

Blue Jays – Toronto moved veteran left-handed option Patrick Corbin from a planned Canada Day start to the bullpen and is now deciding who will take the ball in the series finale against the Mets, with Spencer Miles and opener strategies both under consideration.

Patrick Corbin was lined up to start Toronto’s Canada Day game on Wednesday. By the time the series finale against the Mets comes around, the plan has changed—Corbin is headed to the bullpen, and the Blue Jays are now working out who will take the ball instead.

Mark Schneider said right-hander Spencer Miles could be an option to start. Toronto is also weighing the possibility of using an opener.

The move comes after Corbin struggled after the calendar flipped to June. The 36-year-old has carried an 8.69 ERA with 30 hits allowed over five starts during that stretch.

Corbin arrived in Toronto on a one-year. $1-million deal in early April. signing to help the Blue Jays cover the injuries that have piled up across their season. Early on, he provided some valuable innings. But his overall numbers for 2026 now sit at a 5.09 ERA with 52 strikeouts in 15 starts and 69.0 innings for the Blue Jays.

It’s also a return to a role he has played at the major-league level for years. The 14-year MLB veteran has made 19 career appearances out of the bullpen, with his most recent coming on Sept. 19, 2025, for the Texas Rangers.

With Corbin joining Mason Fluharty and Adam Macko, Toronto’s bullpen will now include three left-handed options. For a team already juggling a crowded injury situation. this decision shifts one of its most experienced arms into a setting where matchups can be managed—while the team figures out what its pitching look should be for the final game of the series against the Mets.

  1. I saw “8.69 ERA” and was like wow that’s terrible. Canada Day start to bullpen… sounds like injury excuses but for pitching? Idk.

  2. Spencer Miles starting feels random, like they’re just grabbing whoever’s warmest. Opener too?? Next thing you know it’ll be like 5 relievers and nobody gets an out. Also “Corbin arrived on a one-year $1 million deal” is crazy cheap for MLB tho.

  3. This is why I don’t watch after June lol. If his June numbers are bad then moving him to the bullpen won’t magically fix it, it just spreads the pain. They should’ve kept him for the Canada Day game, that’s probably why they did it in the first place? Mets series finale gonna be a mess.
