The Blue Jays third baseman was removed from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox (7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT, Sportsnet and Sportsnet+) due to a left knee contusion, the team announced. The exact same thing happened prior to Monday’s game.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Monday that Okamoto is considered day-to-day as he recovers from the injury.
Charles McAdoo was originally scheduled to play in left field for Tuesday’s game, but will instead take over for Okamoto at third base, just like he did on Monday.
Nathan Lukes slides into the lineup in right field, while Brett Bateman will play in centre and Myles Straw in left.
While he’s playing the same position in the field, McAdoo earned himself a bump in the lineup after hitting a home run in Monday’s 2-1 win over Boston.
McAdoo will bat in the leadoff spot Tuesday, followed by Bateman and Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
After going 8-4 over their last 12 games, the Blue Jays head into Tuesday’s game 3.5 games out of the final wild-card spot in the American League.
