Blue Jays’ Guerrero Jr. could play rehab game before return from concussion

Guerrero underwent a full workout on Wednesday at Tropicana Field, manager John Schneider said. If all goes well after a reassessment, Guerrero could make a rehab start for single-A Dunedin on Thursday or Friday. The Blue Jays’ complex in Dunedin, Fla., is less than 40 km from Tropicana Field.

“He’s feeling better so we’re trying to progress as quickly as he can according to how he feels and following the doctor’s guidelines,” Schneider said.

The all-star first baseman remains on schedule to return to the Blue Jays lineup on Saturday against the Yankees in New York.

Guerrero was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list last Saturday after he left Friday’s win over the Yankees following a collision with George Lombard Jr. while running the bases.

The 27-year-old is in the midst of the least productive season of his career and he will have missed at least a career-high 15 games due to injury if he returns on Saturday. Guerrero is hitting .263/.337/.356 with a .693 OPS and seven home runs this season.
