Dishwasher tablets fail when tray blocks or water falters

If you’ve ever opened the dishwasher mid-cycle or after a wash, only to discover your crockery is still covered in grime, rest assured, you’re far from alone. What many people don’t realise, however, is that there are a handful of common errors that could be the culprit. According to Bosch – a leading global supplier of technology and services and a brand in many households – the solution could be far simpler than you think. One likely cause is a blocked tablet-collecting tray. Bosch advises

ensuring the detergent dispenser and the tablet-collecting tray are kept clean, and that the dishwasher tablet is placed flat rather than upright. If something is obstructing the tray – such as a saucepan handle, for instance – the tablet may fail to dissolve correctly. If you’ve ruled this out and the problem persists, the spray arms could be to blame. The firm explains: “The dishwasher relies on the spray arms for adequate water distribution. Ensure that the spray arms rotate freely and that there are

no signs of cracks or damage. “Check if the nozzles are blocked – if food deposits have blocked the nozzles, you will need to detach the spray arms and thoroughly clean out the holes and bearings on the spray arms so that water flow is not obstructed.” The third option is checking the water pressure and temperature. The experts explain: “If your appliance is not sufficiently filling with water or the water pressure is too low, the dishwasher tablet will fail to dissolve fully, or

at all. Ensure that the connection is not kinked, crushed or twisted.” If you notice that your dishwasher is not filling with water, you should book an engineer to come and fix it. The firm adds: “If the appliance is not heating the water properly, then the dishwasher tablet will not fully dissolve. Use a higher temperature setting to see if the tablet dissolves”. Like the water pressure, if there is an issue with the temperature, you should book an engineer visit.
