Blades Brown’s 65 lifts his PGA TOUR push

Blades Brown’s – Blades Brown carded a third-round 6-under 65 at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in McKinney, Texas, holding a share of 13th at 14 under and moving closer to PGA TOUR Special Temporary Membership.
MCKINNEY, Texas — Blades Brown walked off his third round at TPC Craig Ranch knowing he’d done what he needed to do.
On Saturday, the 19-year-old from Nashville, Tennessee, shot a 6-under 65 at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson. It was another step toward PGA TOUR Special Temporary Membership, and it kept his momentum alive after a week that began with a clear target.
Brown started the tournament needing a solo 21st-place finish or better in his 16th career start and seventh of the season. He got there the hard way: he opened with rounds of 66 and 68 before firing his 65. When he finished Saturday’s round, Brown held a share of 13th place at 14 under.
After his round, Brown declined to speak about his future status in detail. When he was asked about where he stands with the Special Temporary Membership process, he responded plainly.
“Yeah, I mean, to be honest, I don’t know exactly where I stand with all of that,” Brown said. “I was just focused on the execution of my golf shots.”
That answer matched the way his week has been going—less about the destination, more about the shot in front of him.
Two weeks earlier, Brown qualified for THE CJ CUP at the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic. There, he tied for ninth place. This season, he’s also posted a third-place finish at the Puerto Rico Open.
Brown’s rise has been defined by early flashes and rare numbers. He turned professional at 17, missed the cut at The American Express in 2025, and made his TOUR debut the season before when he tied for 26th as an amateur on a sponsor exemption. He was 16 years old.
His amateur record still reads like a highlight reel built ahead of schedule. In 2023, Brown became the youngest stroke-play medalist in the history of the U.S. Amateur Championship, tying two other players at the top in the field at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver. The previous record was held by Bobby Jones, who did it in 1920 at the age of 18.
He also earned medalist honors at the 2024 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, where he was eliminated in the Round of 32.
Now, at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, the focus is back where Brown said it should be: the execution. Still, the scorecard makes the stakes hard to miss. Another strong finish could bring him closer to the TOUR status he’s been chasing—and after Saturday’s 65, he’s positioned himself to keep pushing.

Is this the same Blades Brown from that viral highlight? Kinda crazy he’s 19 and already chasing whatever “temporary membership” thing is.
“Special Temporary Membership” sounds made up like they just need someone to fill a spot. If he’s not even sure where he stands, why is everyone acting like he’s close?
Wait so he needs a solo 21st place or better in his 16th start?? I don’t even follow golf like that but that’s like… a weird requirement. Also the article says he’s from Nashville but plays Texas, like he’s just traveling for money or something.
I love when they say “rare numbers” lol. He shoots a 65 and now he’s moving closer to the PGA TOUR, which means he’s basically guaranteed right? Like if he gets one more good round it’s over, right? Not sure why he wouldn’t talk about his status though.
