Steel is up at SUNY Binghamton’s $60 million University Hall, a four-story classroom and lecture complex that will now be ready for use in spring 2028 after an earlier June 2027 target slipped.
When the steel framework went up for SUNY Binghamton’s new University Hall. the message was clear: the campus was moving toward a major expansion in teaching space.. A year into construction on the Vestal campus. the project is now taking shape as a four-story. 90. 000-square-foot building designed to add modern classrooms and lecture halls to university life.
Work on the $60 million initiative began about a year ago. and the University Hall complex is slated to include 33 classrooms of various sizes.. It will also feature a 300-seat lecture hall and a 180-seat lecture hall. with the university saying the addition will bring more than 1. 900 teaching “sites” to campus.
Last July, university officials said the project was planned for completion in June 2027. That timeline has shifted. The building is now expected to be ready for use in the spring of 2028.
Construction activity is already visible on site, including concrete pumping operations underway on May 14, 2026. According to the project plan, the building should be fully enclosed when students return for the fall semester, after which interior work will begin in earnest.
The classrooms in the complex are being designed to accommodate between 20 and 75 seats, along with several testing rooms and group study rooms—spaces intended to serve both instruction and collaboration.
New York state allocated funding for the educational center in 2022, and the project is being carried out by Hueber-Breuer Construction of Syracuse as the general contractor.
With the steel structure in place and the schedule now aiming for spring 2028, Binghamton University’s newest academic hub is moving from foundation work toward the phase students will feel first: ready-to-use classrooms and lecture halls when the fall semester begins building toward completion.
