Bill Bradley Warns Trump: Knicks Finals Aren’t About Him

Former Knicks star and ex-U.S. Senator Bill Bradley says President Trump, planning to attend an NBA Finals game at Madison Square Garden, should expect to be “second fiddle” to the team—because the focus belongs on what the Knicks do.
President Trump is set to appear at Madison Square Garden for an NBA Finals game, but Bill Bradley isn’t exactly clearing the spotlight.
The former Knicks star—who spent 18 years in the United States Senate after his playing career—told Trump he shouldn’t expect to be the main attraction at an event where basketball comes first. “If [Trump] goes to the game, he has to realize he is second fiddle. He’s the president of the United States, but at an NBA Final, if he attends, he’s second fiddle. He’s not first.”.
Bradley then doubled down on where his attention actually will be. “We’ll see what he does. Quite frankly, I don’t give a s*** what he does,” the Knicks alum said. “What I care about is what the team does, and whether we get to the top of the mountain.”
The comments land after reports this week indicated Trump—referenced as 45/47—would attend one of the games at The Garden. On Wednesday, Trump set the record straight, saying he planned to attend Game 3 or Game 4 if the series heads back to New York.
Trump also revealed he planned to hit up Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals. That plan didn’t happen—because the Knicks swept the Cavs.
Bradley’s Knicks legacy is tightly tied to those defining moments. He played 10 seasons with the team and was part of their last two title teams, in 1970 and 1973. And with the Knicks’ current chase for the Larry O’Brien Trophy heating up. he’s also entered a debate that won’t stay quiet among fans: whether Jalen Brunson could top Walt Frazier. Willis Reed. and/or Patrick Ewing as the greatest Knick of all-time.
Bradley played with Clyde and Willis, so the question was inevitable—fair or foul. The former star takes on that argument in his full interview.
