The announcement from Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment frames the moment as more than just a release. The song starts a 60-day countdown to her next birthday and to the re-issue of B’Day. her groundbreaking second album. That album’s original timeline is part of the buildup: B’Day first came out on September 4. 2006. and later in the United States on September 5. 2006—two dates that now sit neatly behind this new rollout.

“Morning Dew (Donk)” also marks Beyoncé’s first new song in two years. Written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, it was produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams. Parkwood Entertainment says the track is designed as “a direct nod to her loyal BeyHive” to commemorate the upcoming epic celebration of B’Day.

The song is set to be included on the 20th Anniversary edition of B’Day. Alongside the track, there’s also a lyric video that repurposes old footage.

That video was directed by Cliff Watts, a frequent collaborator who shot Beyoncé’s iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover around her 25th birthday.

For fans, the nostalgia isn’t vague—B’Day came with proof. After its worldwide release on September 4, 2006, the album became Beyoncé’s second #1 album, debuting with first week sales of 541,196 copies. In the United States on September 5, 2006, the #1 Billboard 200 album chart debut held its ground, and the performance repeated internationally. Japan took less than three days to place the album atop the International Album Chart.

Now, “Morning Dew (Donk)” is meant to pull that history forward—turning a holiday surprise into the first visible step of a longer countdown.
