City boy, biplane beauty, and old trains: the BC Farm Museum

In each edition of Living 60+ magazine, we ask a handful of local people a fun question, and this time it’s about a hidden gem in Fort Langley. What’s your favourite part of the BC Farm Museum? Mick Prangnell “The people. I’m here because of the people. I’m a city boy, an aircraft mechanic. When I first started here, I got to meet a lot of these people who are still here. I just enjoyed coming here, spending time with them.” Marco Lazaga “I would

say the plane [biplane converted to do cropdusting]. Like it’s so beautiful, because I love planes. So I’ve never seen old planes… and the steam [farm equipment] like how big they are.” Mikael Lazaga “I like the train, because they are very old. Because I was born in 2017, and I’ve never seen a old train.” Syd Pickerell “I lean towards the horse section.… Oxen were the first animals that they used here, but farmers really struggled with them, and when enough horses were available

that they could use those for farming, they switched over right away.”

  1. Old trains are the best part, hands down. I kinda feel bad for anyone who hasn’t seen one in real life. That’s all I got.

  2. Wait is the “biplane beauty” like… for wheat? Because I thought those crop dusting planes were banned or something?? But maybe it’s just a display plane. Also the horse/ox thing—oxen being replaced by horses sounds like animal rights propaganda lol.

  3. I like that it’s “hidden gem” but Fort Langley is literally always touristy so idk. The steam equipment being huge is what caught me, like how do they even move that stuff without a crane today? And the guy saying it’s about the people… okay sure, but I’m mostly there for the trains and the old farm machinery. Born in 2017 and never seen an old train? I swear kids these days never go anywhere, blame the phones.
