Bernie Sanders Fires Back at John Fetterman for Trashing Him on Fox News: ‘Sad State of Affairs’

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) hit back at Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA), who has trashed leftists on Fox News in dozens of appearances this year, including Sanders.
As of last month, Fetterman appeared on the conservative network 56 times in 2026. The senator routinely obliges Fox hosts who invite him to criticize fellow Democrats, particularly progressives. During one appearance, Fetterman veered off by criticizing a Republican Senate candidate, and Sean Hannity quickly redirected the senator’s attention to the matter of slamming people in his own party.
Sanders joined Zeteo founder Mehdi Hasan for an interview on Wednesday, where the independent – who caucuses with Democrats – was asked about Fetterman ripping other Democrats.
“John Fetterman is someone who was seen as a progressive at one point,” Hasan said. “You endorsed him back in the day when he was running for lieutenant governor. I supported him when he was running in the Senate primary–”
“So, I wasn’t the only one right?!” Sanders interjected.
“You want to get on television, you go on Fox TV and say something bad about Bernie Sanders… I don’t think there is anyone in the Democratic caucus who has a lower rating than John [Fetterman] does.”

“No, no,” Hasan replied. “A lot of us got him wrong, I think it’s fair to say. He’s now not just awful on multiple issues, especially Israel, but he’s openly attacking you all the time and suggesting that you’re out of touch with the party, that you’re getting things wrong, that you endorse the wrong people. He’s your fellow colleague in the Senate. A, do you have any interactions in person with him, or is this just all on TV and Twitter? And B, do you worry he’s gonna defect to the GOP?”
Sanders replied:
I don’t know. That is, I guess, a possibility. Look, you wanna get on television, you go on Fox TV and you say something bad about Bernie Sanders, get you some coverage. That’s the way it is. It’s kind of a sad state of affairs. But I will tell you that I know in Pennsylvania, I don’t think there’s anybody in the Democratic caucus who has a lower rating among Democrats than John does.”
Fetterman’s approval rating among Democrats has imploded. In March, CNN’s Harry Enten noted that Fetterman, who is up for reelection in 2028, once enjoyed a net approval rating of plus 68 points among Democrats in the state, but the number capsized to -40 points, a mind-boggling 108-point swing.
