Benavidez nears Mikaelian unification in next fight

Benavidez vs – David Benavidez is reportedly close to facing Noel Mikaelian in a cruiserweight unification. After moving up in May and winning the WBA and WBO titles, Benavidez could be set for another major test against a WBC champion who regained his belt in a December rem
David Benavidez is reportedly deep into “advanced” discussions for his next fight—and the name that keeps surfacing is Noel Mikaelian.
The pairing would be a cruiserweight unification. a headline matchup in a division that rarely gets treated like it matters this much. Benavidez, 32-0 with 26 knockouts, moved up to cruiserweight in early May and didn’t ease into the weight class. He thrashed Zurdo Ramirez to take the WBA and WBO titles, and in doing so became a three-division world champion.
Mikaelian is no harmless opponent. The 35-year-old boxer is 28-3 with 12 knockouts. and he returned to the top by regaining the WBC belt from Badou Jack in a December rematch. His record doesn’t scream “easy night. ” and the style of a champion who already had to win his title back isn’t something fans can brush aside.
Still, the excitement around a possible unification comes with a stubborn reality: very few people are expected to believe Mikaelian can actually upset Benavidez. The buzz around these negotiations focuses less on whether the fight can happen and more on whether it can change the outcome.
What’s currently moving the story forward is a specific piece of inside manpower. The report says Sampson Lewkowciz, part of Benavidez’s team, had a long talk with Mikaelian’s promoter, Don King. It’s the kind of detail that cuts through the noise—because it also serves as a reminder of how unpredictable negotiations can get when Don King is involved. especially over the last 15 years or so.
Even so, the idea carries the weight of institutional support. With the WBC behind the unification idea, the current indications make it seem likely the fight could happen, at least for now.
The question for fight fans is simple but loaded: is Benavidez versus Mikaelian actually good for you?. For some, unifications are the point—bigger fights that settle questions rather than postpone them. For others. the worry is what comes next if Benavidez can’t land anything larger than what he’s already being offered. In a sport where momentum matters as much as belts. the trade-off is staring straight at the people buying tickets and setting reminders: a meaningful unification. or just another step in a path that still might not reach the biggest stage.

Don King still doing business like it’s 1999, I knew it. If Mikaelian even breathes near Benavidez it’s crazy.
Wait so Benavidez is up at cruiserweight now? I thought he was already fighting at that level. Either way 32-0 is wild, but I don’t see how Mikaelian wins unless he got some secret cheat code.
I’m confused because it says “unification” but also says “it might change the outcome”?? Like if belts unify doesn’t that mean everyone just agrees? Also Sampson Lewkowciz talking to Don King sounds like a movie plot not boxing.
Advanced discussions with Don King is basically just lawyers being sneaky right? I heard Mikaelian got his belt back from Badou Jack in December, but didn’t Benavidez already already beat someone named Jack? Idk man the names all blend together. If they really do fight though, I think Benavidez still takes it, unless that WBC thing makes it rigged or whatever.
