Bargain talks for Kim Min-jae tempt Manchester United

Manchester United are watching Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae closely as negotiations could open if Bayern drops its price—though nothing concrete has surfaced so far.

The idea has been sitting in the background for weeks: Manchester United, keeping an eye on Bayern Munich’s Kim Min-jae, waiting to see whether the deal that makes sense on paper ever makes it off the ground.

As of now, there is nothing concrete—no finalized talks, no signed offers. But the monitoring is real. Manchester United representatives have been watching Kim Min-jae for some time and will continue watching him at the World Cup. Bayern Munich. for its part. could be looking to refresh its backline. and the possibility that it might move its asking price has started to circulate.

Here’s where the shift would matter. Bayern paid €50 million for Kim Min-jae in 2023. In a report from the Friday Daily Schmankerl, Bayern might be willing to go down to €20–25 million for the center-back. That would be a dramatic drop—one that could suddenly make the move feel less like a long shot for clubs that can’t or won’t meet the original number.

The salary question is the other brick in the wall. Kim is said to earn a total package of €15 million per season, including salary plus bonus. It’s exactly the kind of figure that tends to narrow the list of suitors. The question now becomes whether a club like Manchester United could meet it if the transfer price falls.

Still, Kim’s stance—so far—has not been consistent with an exit. The Korean defender is generally happy in Munich. His contract runs through 2028. There’s nothing in the reporting suggesting he has shown any inclination to leave Bayern Munich. Some of that may be tied to the reality that not every club can meet his wages. but the reporting also says he does not allegedly want to leave Bavaria.

The interest isn’t limited to England. Juventus and top Turkish clubs are also on Kim’s radar. Even so, as things stand, the World Cup remains the stage where attention will stay locked on him—both for United and for whoever might be preparing a bid if the numbers finally line up.

Bayern’s reported willingness to slide toward €20–25 million is what turns this from idle monitoring into something more actionable. Kim’s long contract and his reported comfort in Munich explain why it hasn’t already happened. Between those two truths is the reason this story keeps moving: one club may be adjusting its price. while the player appears. at least for now. to be staying put.

Nothing about the situation is confirmed. What is clear is the timing—Manchester United watching him through the World Cup, Bayern potentially recalibrating its asking range, and other clubs keeping their attention ready just in case.

  1. So Bayern paid 50 and now want like 25? That’s crazy but also maybe he’s not that good then. Either way I don’t trust “Daily Schmankerl” or whatever.

  2. I don’t get it. If his contract is through 2028 and he’s happy in Munich, why would he even leave just because MU is watching him at the World Cup? Sounds like clickbait. Also World Cup is in the middle of the season or not? idk.

  3. This feels like the usual “negotiations could open” stuff. United been scouting everyone for years. If he makes €15m a year, you think they can afford that but drop the fee? Doesn’t add up. And Juventus and Turkish clubs too… like everybody wants him but somehow nobody makes a move? Maybe he’ll magically sign after one good match at the World Cup.
