Azzi Fudd roasts Paige Bueckers after half-court win

Azzi Fudd won Dallas Wings’ half-court shooting competition after practice on Saturday, then celebrated by joking about teammate Paige Bueckers—saying she hopes Bueckers “misses every half-court shot for the rest of the year.” The win comes as Fudd—drafted fir

For a franchise trying to build around a new set of stars, the Dallas Wings got a moment that was equal parts skill and swagger. After practice on Saturday, rookie Azzi Fudd walked into the team’s half-court shooting competition and came away with the win.

Then came the best part—at least, for anyone watching her take aim at the person everyone expects to share the spotlight with her.

“Yeah, today was a big day for me,” Fudd said, per Melissa Triebwasser. “I really just wanna shout out my teammates though, [Aziaha James] and Haley [Jones] told me they believed in me. They told me it was my day and really, that was the cherry on top that I needed…. All of them are great except Paige. I hope she misses every half-court shot for the rest of the year.”.

It was a joke delivered with confidence, the kind that only lands when the relationship behind it already feels like a storyline. Fudd is Dallas’s top pick from the 2026 WNBA Draft, selected to lead a new era alongside Paige Bueckers.

And she’s not exactly hiding from the media that comes with it. In fact, she’s comfortable poking fun at Bueckers in public—an attitude that fits neatly with how Fudd has been carving out her role since entering the league.

Through this season, Fudd has worked herself into the rotation, starting 11 of 17 games and averaging 29.9 minutes per game. She’s also made an impact as a scorer, putting up 13.2 points per game.

Still, the wider conversation around Dallas hasn’t been only about production. The “elephant in the room” remains the relationship between Fudd and Bueckers. with some arguing it may have played a role in the decision to draft Fudd at the top of the 2026 WNBA Draft. Bueckers has maintained that Fudd earned the right to go first overall. even as another rookie has kept the topic from cooling off: Lynx rookie Olivia Miles.

The Wings’ schedule now sets up another chance for that debate to play out on-court. Fudd will soon get another chance to go up against Miles and prove her worth to WNBA fans everywhere.

Next up for Dallas is a home game against the Lynx. That game tips off at 2PM ET on June 28th from College Park Center.

  1. Okay but joking like that is gonna bite her if Paige actually starts cooking. Also 2PM tip? I’ll forget by then anyway lol.

  2. Wait so they drafted Azzi because of a relationship??? I thought teams just draft best player. Unless Paige was mad and like forced it?? Not sure I’m reading this right.

  3. I mean it’s a joke but “misses every half-court shot for the rest of the year” sounds kinda mean?? Like let the girl play. And why bring up Olivia Miles too, isn’t that just stirring the pot for headlines.
