The Avengers: Endgame re-release, officially titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, will be longer than the original 2019 movie.
As confirmed by AMC Theatres, Avengers: Endgame Encore clocks in at 185 minutes, a shade over Avengers: Endgame’s 181 minutes. That makes it the longest Marvel Studios movie ever made.
The exact details of the bonus content hasn’t yet been confirmed, but could be anything from deleted scenes, to new post-credits, and – more importantly – setup for Avengers: Doomsday.
“We’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame,” Endgame and Doomsday co-director Joe Russo previously said at the Sand Films Festival (via Deadline).
Russo, who described the re-release as including a “critical companion story”, added, “It’s an opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way…the fact that we can enhance the story of Doomsday by bridging it to Endgame and these characters that we worked with for years that we love so much, and continue their story: It’s a really unique opportunity.”
Avengers: Endgame Encore is set to release on September 25 as the road to Doomsday begins.
Adding to the hype, Marvel has even announced an official podcast, starring Ms. Marvel actor Iman Vellani, will begin this August and dissect some of the MCU’s most iconic moments ahead of December’s Avengers: Doomsday release.
Avengers: Doomsday stars Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, with a new D23 trailer showcasing the Fantastic Four villain’s immense power – and simmering rivalry with Reed Richards.
The Doomsday synopsis confirms it will follow “beloved heroes from three distinct universes as they’re set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered.”
Avengers: Doomsday hits cinemas on December 18.
