Autopsy finished as police probe toddler death amid abuse fears

She said many in the building feared some of the people who came in and out of the unit in which the toddler lived, and there was regular screaming and yelling coming from that apartment. She said she saw someone come into the unit with two black eyes, and the girl’s grandmother would regularly come with food. The woman’s door hangs loose, and she said it’s because a neighbour had tried to kick it down, demanding money for crack. Edmonton Police Service confirmed that the
other children in the home were “placed into the care of family members.” Children and Family Services were notified of the incident. Edmonton Police’s Homicide Section continues to investigate. Edmonton, toddler death, autopsy completed, homicide section, Edmonton Police Service, Children and Family Services, apartment unit, neighbour fears
So sad. I hate hearing stories like this.
The door hanging loose because someone tried to kick it down for crack money… like why is that even allowed to happen. Just arrest whoever and be done.
Wait, I’m confused—autopsy finished but it’s still “homicide section” investigating? Like did they not know cause of death yet? And the screaming/yelling like… neighbors always hear stuff but nothing gets done, so what changed here?
Regular screaming and someone coming in with two black eyes and then the grandmother bringing food… sounds more like an ongoing situation than a one-off. Also why were the other kids “placed into care of family members” instead of somewhere safer right away? I dunno, I feel like these systems move slow until it’s way too late. Terrible either way.
