In Mirpur, Australia’s XI looked noticeably different long before the first ball was delivered. Josh Inglis won the toss and elected to bat in the second one-day international against Bangladesh on Thursday, setting the tone for a match where the pressure on Australia feels immediate.
Riley Meredith was the headline return. Australia recalled the fast bowler in this format for the first time in five years. Meredith’s only previous ODI came against the West Indies in 2021.
Bangladesh enters the game with momentum after winning the first match by 86 runs under the DLS Method. Now the hosts are chasing a maiden ODI series win over Australia, a target that raises the stakes in a season already complicated for the touring side.
Australia’s squad is under pressure and under strength, missing frontline pace bowlers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazelwood and Mitchell Starc. The change becomes even sharper when you look at the XI: Meredith replaced Liam Scott as the only alteration from Australia’s first game.
Bangladesh made its own single swap. Opening batter Saif Hassan made way for Soumya Sarkar.
Bangladesh will line up with Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tawhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz (captain), Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Nahid Rana, Tanvir Islam.
Australia’s XI is Matt Short, Cooper Connolly, Josh Inglis (captain), Marnus Labuschagne, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Matthew Renshaw, Xavier Bartlett, Riley Meredith, Nathan Ellis and Adam Zampa.
