Athletics place Denzel Clarke on IL with hamstring strain

Denzel Clarke has been pulled from his Triple-A Las Vegas rehab assignment after a significant left hamstring strain confirmed by MRI. The 26-year-old outfielder is expected to remain sidelined at least through the All-Star break, when he will be re-evaluated
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The walk back to Sacramento from Las Vegas happened sooner than expected for Athletics outfielder Denzel Clarke.
The team returned Clarke from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas after he suffered a “significant left hamstring strain” during Tuesday night’s game. The setback will keep him out at least through the All-Star break, and he is set to be re-evaluated after that in July.
Clarke returned to Sacramento to continue his rehab after an MRI confirmed a high-grade hamstring strain. That medical update effectively turned what had been a recovery timetable into a longer pause for the 26-year-old Canadian.
The hamstring injury is the latest chapter in a season already shaped by time on the injured list. Clarke had been on a rehab assignment for a right foot bone bruise that forced him onto the 10-day injured list on April 22. Last year, as a rookie, he missed significant time because of an adductor strain.
On the field this season, Clarke has struggled to find his footing. In 22 games for the Athletics, he is hitting .170 with no home runs, six RBIs, one double and two stolen bases.
The timing of this latest injury lands as the Athletics head toward the middle of the season, with the All-Star break looming as the first real checkpoint. Clarke’s return will hinge on how his hamstring responds in the weeks leading into July.
