Asantehene Urges Ethical Leadership for Ghana Business Growth

The Asantehene has called for a renewed focus on integrity and humility in corporate governance to foster sustainable development and public trust across the nation.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has urged Ghanaian business executives to centre corporate leadership on integrity, honesty, and humility, warning that sustainable businesses require trust.. Speaking at the Ghana Business Leaders Conclave at the University of Professional Studies, Accra, the Asantehene stated that ethical leadership is essential for national development and long-term business success.. Otumfuo explained that business has historically been built on trust and defined integrity as a practical standard reflected in how

leaders behave when unmonitored, when holding power, and when profits are at stake.. He cited the six core values of integrity — honesty, trust, fairness, respect, responsibility, and courage — noting that these universal principles align with Ghanaian cultural values.. He cautioned executives against unethical practices like tax evasion, dishonesty, and worker exploitation, warning that managerial dishonesty eventually spreads throughout an organisation.. Additionally, the Asantehene criticised arrogance and ego-driven management, advising leaders to practice humility

and recognise that institutional success relies on collective effort rather than a single individual.. While noting that Ghana’s private sector needs more support, he concluded that private enterprises must uphold ethical standards to maintain public trust and achieve long-term growth.
