Asante Samuel fires NSFW jab at A.J. Brown

After the New England Patriots finalized the acquisition of A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles, former NFL defensive back Asante Samuel took to social media with NSFW trash talk aimed directly at Brown.

New England fans didn’t have to wait long for the first real dose of noise after A.J. Brown officially became a Patriot.

This week. the Patriots acquired Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles—one of the league’s most anticipated trade outcomes. long rumored to be a matter of when rather than if. The sense of inevitability had been building for months. and it finally turned into reality as soon as the move was made official.

Brown’s rocky relationship with the Eagles offense was part of what made the change feel plausible even before it happened. Last season, he went to the media to air his complaints about how things were being run. Even when Philadelphia had success on the field, Brown continued pushing his grievances about the offense’s execution.

That history didn’t stay buried. Former NFL player Asante Samuel—known from his own playing days for being willing to talk—posted a direct response to Brown on X. formerly Twitter. Samuel wrote: “AJ Brown wouldn’t be able to handle my mouth in practice. He would have been left Philly fucking with me.”.

Samuel’s message came with the same edge that made him a trash talker during his time in the NFL, and it reads like a reminder that he believed Brown would struggle with that kind of intensity in day-to-day work.

For Brown, though, the focus is now on adjusting to his new reality in New England—and soaking up what the trade represents. When it became official, he described the moment as something close to surreal.

“Trying to adjust and walking up the hill with the uniform on. I was like. ‘Man. this is real.’ Caught myself at one point in practice. I wasn’t paying attention because I was like. ‘Damn. I’m a Patriot.’ Just trying to take it all in as much as I can… And like I said. I’m enjoying it. I know this ain’t heaven, but it’s close to it,” Brown said.

The confrontation is set up perfectly by both men’s reputations. Samuel is stepping in with confidence and a taste for confrontation, while Brown is trying to settle into a new environment after an Eagles stay where he never stopped questioning the offense—even on successful weeks.

With Brown in a Patriots uniform and Samuel already swinging with words, the trade didn’t just change a roster. It shifted the tone around the matchup long before any game snaps into place.
