Argonauts QB Chad Kelly back at practice after suffering neck injury

The Toronto Argonauts got some welcome news Sunday as the team returned to practice following their bye week.

Starting quarterback Chad Kelly was a full participant in practice after he was forced to leave the team’s last game against the B.C. Lions with a neck injury, the team announced in its injury report.

Kelly, 32, was injured late in the first half of Toronto’s 26-12 win over the Lions after taking a hit to the head/neck area from Lions linebacker Darnell Sankey while sliding to the ground to give himself up.

Sankey was fined by the CFL for a high hit on a sliding quarterback.

In his fourth season with the Argos, Kelly has completed 70.4 per cent of his passes for 2,323 yards, 17 touchdowns and has thrown nine interceptions.

Linebacker Cameron Judge was also back at practice after missing the last three games.

Not participating in practice for Toronto were punter John Haggerty, kicker Lirim Hajrullahu, linebacker Owen Goss and offensive lineman Kendall Randolph.

The Argonauts will play their first game at BMO Field this season Thursday against the Calgary Stampeders after being forced to play on the road because of the FIFA World Cup in Toronto.
