Messi’s Argentina take on Cape Verde in World Cup last-32
Argentina take on Cape Verde in the round of 32 at the World Cup tonight, with the holders looking to take another step towards defending the trophy they won in Qatar in 2022. Lionel Messi and co. look in fine form as they continue their bid to win back-to-back World Cups, with the Albiceleste’s talisman having scored six goals in just three games to begin his 2026 campaign. As for Cape Verde, Bubista’s side have exceeded all expectations in finishing second in Group H and
securing a spot in the last 32, and they can make life difficult for the best teams, as shown with their draw to Spain in their opening game. The winner of this tie will face either Australia or Egypt in the last 16 in Atlanta on Tuesday, 7 July. Follow all of the latest from the World Cup clash with our live blog below

Messi scored 6 in 3?? that’s kinda insane lol.
I don’t get why people keep saying “take another step” like it’s guaranteed. Cape Verde already drew Spain so it’s not like they’re some easy team. Also Atlanta in July like is that stadium even ready?
Wait… Cape Verde is the one that beat Argentina or am I mixing them up with another team? If Messi has 6 goals then it should be over fast, but I feel like FIFA always makes weird matchups. Plus “Atlanta on Tuesday 7 July” sounds like US time zone confusion.
Cape Verde looked dangerous vs Spain right? so if Argentina sleeps for 10 minutes it could get messy. Everyone talks about defending the trophy but 2022 was a whole different bracket setup. Also I swear Messi only plays good when the commentators are hyping him up.
