Apple’s entry-level MacBook Pro design heads toward 2027

Apple’s next wave of base MacBook Pro changes may be closer than it sounds, but not in the way many people expect.
Bloomberg reports that Apple is working on a “revamped” entry-level MacBook Pro that could launch as soon as the first half of 2027. The key detail is what it won’t touch: the updated model is expected to keep the 14-inch screen size.
That design direction also matters. The revamped MacBook Pro is described as having a design “in line” with what Apple is planning for its touchscreen MacBooks. which are also in the works. Those touchscreen laptops are set to be released between “the end of this year and early next year.” Bloomberg has previously reported that they will include a Dynamic Island-like pill at the top of the screen. suggesting Apple wants the same visual language to roll across its lineup over time.
The update path is coming into focus from Apple’s chip cadence, too. Apple last updated the base MacBook Pro in October with an M5 chip bump. The company is also working on an M6 processor. and Bloomberg says Apple “finished work months ago” on a different base MacBook Pro upgrade that keeps the laptop’s present design and is scheduled to launch this year. After that, Apple is expected to move quickly to the M7 line in 2027, including new Pro and Max chips.
If the MacBook Pro story is about timing and transitions. the iPad Pro testing suggests the company is using the same “keep the screens. change what’s inside” logic. Bloomberg says Apple is testing four new iPad Pros set to launch in the spring. with a focus on “internal improvements.” Those iPad Pros are expected to retain 11-inch and 13-inch screen sizes. Apple last updated the iPad Pro line last October with an M5 chip.
Put together. the reports sketch a sequence that feels less like a single product refresh and more like a staged handoff: a base MacBook Pro upgrade that preserves the current design and arrives this year. then a shift to a new design language that lines up with forthcoming touchscreen models. landing in the first half of 2027. It also shows Apple running two different update rhythms at once—MacBook Pro changes tied to both screen design and processor generations. and iPad Pro changes focused on internal improvements while keeping familiar sizes.

So… another MacBook Pro but still the same 14 inch?? Sounds pointless lol.
I swear Apple just copies the Dynamic Island pill from iPhone and puts it everywhere. If they keep changing chips but not the design, why call it a revamp?
Wait is the 2027 one gonna be touchscreen or not? The article says “tied to” the touchscreen Macs like it’s optional?? I feel like I read this wrong but also I’m kinda mad my current one is already outdated.
“Keep the screens, change what’s inside” sounds like they’re just swapping processors and calling it progress. Also M5, M6, M7… that’s basically every year. Meanwhile my iPad Pro still works fine, so I don’t get the rush. Are they testing iPads because they can’t figure out the laptop keyboard or what?
