Three actors have regularly been cited as having made the shortlist for James Bond in recent weeks. All three of them have been busy this year, giving the producers of the upcoming James Bond reboot a good look at their chops, not to mention their audience perception. Callum Turner recently starred alongside Monica Barbaro in the romantic comedy One Night Only, while Jack O’Connell‘s new movie Ink, directed by Danny Boyle, recently premiered at the Venice International Film Festival. The third contender, on the other hand, will return as a fan-favorite character in the sixth season of Apple TV’s longest-running drama series in just 10 days.
The show in question is Slow Horses, and the actor is Jack Lowden. He debuted in the series after playing a pivotal role in the ensemble cast of Christopher Nolan‘s World War II movie Dunkirk. Slow Horses, based on a series of books by Mick Herron, follows a group of disgraced spies relegated to a forgotten division in MI5, led by Gary Oldman‘s eccentric spymaster Jackson Lamb. The series premiered to positive reviews in 2022, and four years later, it remains one of Apple TV’s crowning achievements.

Here’s When ‘Slow Horses’ Returns for a Sixth Season
The show’s six-episode sixth season will premiere on September 16, the same day as Prime Video’s Reacher passes the torch to the spin-off series Neagley. Aside from Lowden and Oldman, the show features the returning cast members Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Hugo Weaving, and Aimee-Ffion Edwards. Slow Horses has received critical acclaim over its five-season run, and it currently holds an overall score of 97% on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. Season 2 remains the best-reviewed of the bunch, with a perfect 100% score. In her review of the fifth season, Collider’s Carly Lane praised creator Will Smith for delivering “tense, gripping television at a rate that other streamers can really only dream of.” Season 6 will be the series’ first without Smith at the helm of affairs. Slow Horses has already been renewed for a seventh season, and with Silo and Ted Lasso earning rare spots for Apple TV on the Nielsen charts this year already, the stage is set for the streak to continue in 10 days.
