Sean Strickland arrived at the UFC fan festival near the White House with a chip on his shoulder—and then found himself surrounded by agents and pulled back out of the crowd.
On Sunday, the reigning middleweight champion was escorted out of the viewing area on The Ellipse by U.S. Secret Service agents and other law enforcement officers. Videos and photos posted online showed Strickland surrounded by security before he was removed from the event area.
Strickland had previously said he hadn’t been invited to the fan festival, which was staged as part of America’s 250th birthday celebrations and coincided with Donald Trump’s 80th birthday. He documented what happened on social media.
Earlier in the day, Strickland posted to his Instagram Story: “Well guys sorry no luck on a ticket to the fan fest….. Just not American enough:/”
Later, he shared footage from inside the fan festival. In the video, supporters crowd around him and chant “USA! USA!” as Strickland reacts with “We made it you guys, we fucking made it.”
After that welcome, the tone changed. Online clips showed Strickland with officers around him as he was escorted away.
In a subsequent video, Strickland shared footage of himself from inside what appeared to be a police vehicle. “I’m pretty sure I didn’t break a law, like I’m pretty sure. But we might be going to jail, but I’m pretty sure we didn’t break no laws,” he said. In another video. he suggested he “may have been charged with disorderly conduct. ” and thanked his fans for “riding and supporting me.”.
Strickland’s presence was already a flashpoint. The reigning middleweight champion has previously come under fire for racist, homophobic and misogynistic remarks.
The U.S. Park Police pushed back on the idea that he had been taken into custody. Its Public Information Office said in a statement to ESPN that Strickland was “neither cited nor arrested in connection with the incident. ” adding that he was instead “advised not to return to the venue for his own and public safety” and was returned to his hotel.
The Park Police said the situation developed quickly after Strickland’s arrival. “The unplanned presence of Sean Strickland drew significant attention from attendees, resulting in disorder,” the statement said. It also said that “due to concerns for Strickland’s safety and the safety of event patrons. personnel from the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Park Police, and other assisting agencies evacuated him safely from the area.”.
By the end of the day’s videos and statements. the same question kept resurfacing in his posts and in the official response: what began as an attempt to get into the event became a security operation on The Ellipse—set against the high-profile backdrop of the White House and America’s 250th birthday celebrations.

They just can’t let anything be normal anymore.
Sounds like Secret Service overreacted just bc he drew a crowd. Like crowd control is one thing but escorting him out is crazy. Also the ‘not American enough’ line?? people are so weird.
Wait so Strickland wasn’t invited, right, but they still let him in? That part doesn’t add up. If he posted “we might be going to jail” then why are we acting surprised. Disorderly conduct is such a lazy charge though, like any argument nowadays they just call it that.
This whole thing is tied to Trump’s 80th and America’s 250th birthday and now Secret Service is there? I’m not saying he’s innocent or guilty, but it feels political like they needed a headline. I saw a clip where they’re chanting ‘USA’ and then suddenly he’s surrounded by cops… like what even changed that fast. Also I swear I read somewhere he already got in trouble before, so maybe that’s why they grabbed him.
