Anti-migrant protesters jam roads near Brandenburger Tor

Yesterday afternoon, the area around the Brandenburger Tor saw thousands of protesters paralyse traffic as they demanded the “immediate resignation of the current federal government”. Although 10,000 participants were scheduled to attend, only 4,000 actually showed up; nonetheless, they caused significant traffic chaos as many of them attempted to arrive at the Brandenburg Gate by car. Due to limited parking facilities under the gate, the police were forced to turn away many motorised demonstrators, suggesting they find elsewhere to park and return on foot. The

car convoys had arrived in Berlin from all over Germany under the banner of ‘Project M1llion’, an officially non-partisan project promoted in right-wing media. “Project M1llion demands political improvements with a concrete 11-point plan,” the organisers wrote on their website. Amongst these demands are immediate new elections, an end to the CO2 tax, the abolition of the mandatory broadcasting fee and the immediate deportation of all convicted, criminal and illegal migrants.
