Angela Hill breaks more UFC marks in Macau

Angela Hill shattered UFC history again in Macau, extending her streak of record-setting achievements as she outpointed UFC newcomer Xiong Jingnan. On the prelims, Rei Tsuruya returned with a quick submission at bantamweight after a late opponent change, while

In Macau, China, Angela Hill walked into the cage as the oldest fighter on the UFC Fight Night card at Galaxy Arena—and then erased any doubt with a performance that looked routine, precise, and relentless.

At 41 years old, Hill handed former ONE Championship titleholder Xiong Jingnan a first UFC lesson in a strawweight bout that became a record-making showcase. It was Hill’s 30th UFC appearance, and she swept the scorecards against Xiong, who entered the fight making her UFC debut.

Hill’s victory added to multiple UFC milestones. She extended the record for the most total appearances by a female fighter in the organization’s history. The win also became Hill’s 13th triumph in the strawweight division, matching a UFC record for that weight class.

Xiong came in with momentum—she had won her final five fights under the ONE banner—but the transition to the UFC has its own pace and pressure. Before this week, Xiong hadn’t fought in 14 months. Her only loss in ONE had come at the hands of Canada’s Angela Lee, a fighter Xiong defeated twice.

For Hill, the work started early and never let up. She was the listed underdog, but she out-struck Xiong in all three rounds, landing 122 significant strikes in the 15-minute fight—her highest strike total since her 2022 win over Emily Ducote.

The Alliance MMA member’s overall UFC profile is complicated by the grind of high-level competition. Hill entered Saturday with a 14-16 record in the promotion and was tied with Gillian Robertson for No. 4 on the women’s all-time wins list, behind champions Jessica Andrade (17), Amanda Nunes (16), and Valentina Shevchenko (15).

What the scoreboard didn’t fully capture was how the numbers continued to accumulate. After the win. Hill moved into the top six all-time in UFC history. regardless of weight class. for total time spent in the cage at 7:12:45. She also jumped from fifth to third all-time in total strikes landed (2. 763) and climbed into third in significant strikes (2. 364). behind only Max Holloway (3. 681) and Sean Strickland (2. 430).

Hill debuted on the UFC roster in 2014. and even without ever challenging for a title. she has consistently drawn into fights against the division’s most proven names. She has faced strawweight champions Rose Namajunas. Jessica Andrade. and reigning champion Mackenzie Dern. and she’s gone the distance against past title challengers Virna Jandiroba. Amanda Lemos. and Yan Xiaonan.

On the eve of this card, Hill carried a ranking that reflected her position in the 115-pound picture: she entered the weekend ranked No. 14 in the division despite her status as one of the promotion’s most durable veterans.

Saturday’s strawweight bout was one of two 115-pound contests featured on the preliminary card at Galaxy Arena.

In the other 115-pound fight, Brazil’s Jaqueline Amorim made the kind of statement that doesn’t need a decision. She earned her fourth submission win in the past two years, tapping Thailand’s Loma Lookboonmee with a first-round armbar. Amorim is now 5-2 in the UFC’s 115-pound division, with all five of her wins coming via stoppage.

Further down the prelims, Rei Tsuruya returned to action in a way that left little room for doubt. The 23-year-old was originally scheduled to face Jesus Aguilar, who withdrew due to injury. Instead, Tsuruya fought Luis Gurule, who was coming off a win less than two weeks earlier.

Gurule had snapped a three-fight skid with a unanimous decision over Daniel Barez at the Meta Apex earlier this month. but Tsuruya didn’t give him much time to build momentum. Tsuruya took Gurule down and locked in a tight squeeze that forced a tap in the opening round — the first time anyone has submitted Gurule.

Tsuruya’s UFC path began two years ago with a win over Carlos Hernandez at UFC 303. He then suffered his first pro loss in his second UFC appearance, going the distance against current 125-pound champion Joshua Van 14 months ago, the most recent fight before UFC Macau.

Because Tsuruya and Gurule typically compete at flyweight (125 pounds), the matchup’s weight came down to circumstances. With the short-notice nature of the replacement bout, the fight took place at bantamweight (135 pounds).

The prelims also delivered debut moments from the newest arrivals. UFC newcomers Luis Felipe Dias of Brazil and Rodrigo Vera of Peru won their promotional debuts with knockouts of Yi Sak Lee and Zhu Kangjie. respectively. Cody Haddon stopped Aori Qileng with knees to the body. and Jose Henrique Souza escaped with a split decision over Ding Meng.

  1. Wait so Xiong Jingnan was in ONE first right? I feel like UFC is just boring pace compared to ONE or something. Also 122 strikes is wild but like… did they count grappling too or just punches?

  2. Angela Hill really broke records again??? I thought she already had the most appearances or whatever. So what does “strawweight record” even mean like is that just wins or like rounds fought? Either way UFC debutant got schooled for sure.

  3. Macau UFC always sounds kinda random lol. But if Xiong hadn’t fought in 14 months then that explains it, she probably came in gassed. The article said Hill was underdog too so I’m like okay who’s betting against her at 41?? I can’t believe it’s her 30th UFC appearance, that’s basically everyone’s lifespan.
