Amex Platinum hotel credit: how to use the $600

Amex Platinum – American Express Platinum and Business Platinum cardmembers can earn up to $600 in prepaid hotel statement credits each calendar year—$300 every six months—for bookings through Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) or The Hotel Collection (THC). The guide covers what’s
The clock is already ticking for anyone planning a luxury hotel stay with an American Express Platinum Card or The Business Platinum Card. Cardmembers can use the prepaid hotel statement credit for the first half of 2026 only until the end of June. and the math is simple: you’ll want an eligible booking lined up soon.
The benefit can be substantial. Cardmembers receive up to $600 in hotel statement credits each calendar year—up to $300 semiannually—when they make prepaid bookings through American Express Travel® at Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection properties. (THC requires a minimum two-night stay.)
The key detail many travelers miss: you don’t have to complete the stay by June 30. Because it’s tied to a prepaid booking, the trip can be later in the year—or even into the next year—as long as you use the credit within the required window.
Platinum and Business Platinum cardmembers earn up to $300 in statement credit every six months: one cycle covers January through June, and the other covers July through December. The credits come from bookings made through Amex FHR or The Hotel Collection.
FHR and THC come with different levels of on-property perks. FHR is designed to deliver true “elite-like” benefits when you book at more than 3,000 luxury properties worldwide. Those benefits include complimentary daily breakfast for two, complimentary Wi-Fi, a guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout, and noon check-in. Cardmembers may also receive a room upgrade upon arrival, plus a $100 experience credit unique to each property.
THC can still be useful, just with fewer perks. THC benefits include noon check-in, late checkout, and a room upgrade upon arrival (all subject to availability). There is also a $100 credit toward eligible charges such as food and beverage and spa treatments.
Booking is straightforward because the credit doesn’t require registration before you use it. Travelers can go into Amex Travel directly to search for a hotel. or navigate to the FHR and THC landing page. On the general Amex Travel site. there’s a filter to sort hotels based on whether they’re part of FHR or THC.
Once the hotel is selected, the rest looks like a normal reservation flow: book through American Express Travel and pay with the Platinum or Business Platinum card.
Credit timing is another point to keep in mind. American Express states it may take up to 90 days for the statement credit to post. The guide also notes it usually takes only three days on average, and in one recent FHR booking experience, the credit appeared within a day.
Maximizing the credit isn’t only about picking a hotel at random—it’s about stretching the value. One approach is to start with FHR properties that are priced competitively. Competitive nightly rates and generous on-property perks can make the stay feel less expensive even when the credit covers only part of the bill.
Limited-time promotions can also change the deal. Some offers include a bonus night when you book a minimum stay, which effectively lowers the nightly rate. In one example shared by Matt Moffitt. a three-night stay at InterContinental Athénée Palace Bucharest in Romania was priced so that only two nights were paid because the third night was complimentary. The total stay cost was $441, meaning the out-of-pocket cost was $141 when factoring in the credit.
The guide also emphasizes flexibility: you don’t have to use all $300 on a single reservation. Because the statement credit is issued twice per year. it can be applied across multiple bookings within the same six-month period. That means a traveler could use part of the credit on a shorter stay at a lower-priced FHR or THC property. then apply the remainder later.
Still, for many travelers, the most effective path is to pair the statement credit with a promotion that already reduces the price. With many participating hotels at higher price points, stacking benefits can be the difference between “good value” and “excellent value.”
There are trade-offs and fine print to understand before clicking “book.” If a reservation is canceled or modified. statement credits may not be received or may be reversed—even if a refund is issued. And if the hotel credit is clawed back after cancellation. the guide warns you may not receive another statement credit until the next six-month cycle. If you need to change your booking dates, it’s recommended to call Amex Travel to check eligibility.
For travelers who rely on hotel loyalty programs. FHR and THC bookings don’t automatically guarantee the same perks you get from brand loyalty status. The benefits depend on where you stay. The guide includes an experience from Matt Moffitt. saying his two most recent THC stays—one at a Hilton property in Porto. Portugal. and an IHG hotel in Madrid. Spain—honored his elite status.
There’s one more rule that matters for households with shared cards: authorized users on Platinum and Business Platinum do not receive their own hotel credit. However, the statement credit can be split across all cards on the account.
In the end. the prepaid hotel credit on the American Express Platinum and Business Platinum remains one of the more valuable perks tied to the cards—especially for travelers who can book eligible prepaid stays through Fine Hotels + Resorts or The Hotel Collection and use the credits within the required time windows. Pair that with a promotion like a free night offer. and what looks like a luxury stay on paper can become a much sharper deal in real life.

So basically Amex is giving you $600 for hotels? Sounds too good lol.
Wait I gotta use it by June 30 or else it disappears? But it says you don’t have to finish the stay so like… what’s the actual deadline. Amex wording always confuses me.
If you book through Hotel Collection it’s only $300 every six months right? I swear last year they said it was $400. And why do they call it prepaid like that doesn’t matter… I don’t trust prepaid stuff.
I tried something similar with FHR and got denied because the hotel wasn’t “luxury enough” or whatever. So now I’m supposed to line up a booking soon, but I can check in later?? That’s kinda what I thought but I didn’t read the whole thing. Also THC needs two nights… does a weekend count as two nights or do they mean 48 hours exactly?
