American Airpower Museum warbirds head to Jones Beach

On the morning of July 3, Republic Airport in Farmingdale, New York isn’t just preparing for a big weekend. It’s already turning into a place where people can watch history get ready.
The American Airpower Museum will once again send several historic warbirds to the FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach. where the aircraft are scheduled to take part in formation and aerial demonstration flights during the July 5–6 event. The museum’s Douglas C-47B Skytrain. North American P-51D Mustang. Curtiss P-40M Warhawk “Flying Tiger. ” Grumman TBM-3E Avenger. North American AT-6 Texans. and the museum’s WACO biplane are among the aircraft expected to fly.
The lead-up starts early. From July 1 through July 3. visitors can book flight experiences aboard the museum’s AT-6 Texan and WACO aircraft. while C-47 Skytrain flights are scheduled for July 3. Then. on July 3 and 4. people at the museum will be able to watch practice flights as participating aircraft prepare for their appearances at the FourLeaf Air Show. The museum says these practice sessions are expected to take place throughout the day and will be visible from the museum grounds.
After that, the show weekend brings even more movement. During the FourLeaf Air Show weekend. visitors at Republic Airport will also be able to watch aircraft depart for and return from Jones Beach following their scheduled performances. The museum is encouraging air show attendees to visit before or after the Jones Beach event to see the participating aircraft up close and to meet the pilots and crews.
If the warbirds are the main draw, they’re not the only spectacle hovering on the horizon. In addition to the museum’s aircraft. visitors at Republic Airport may see aircraft and performers associated with the air show. including the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, and other civilian and military participants. For people who want something hands-on that starts before the planes lift off. a temporary aviation-themed exhibit will be set up at the museum during the holiday weekend. Dream BIG Entertainment’s “Top Gun Maverick F/A-18 Experience” will be located on the museum ramp from July 3 through July 5. letting visitors sit inside a full-size Navy F/A-18 cockpit replica. take photographs. and wear flight gear.
The museum’s weekend plans don’t stop at the FourLeaf Air Show timetable. Beyond the air show activities. visitors can explore the museum’s collection of military aircraft. including Cold War-era jets such as the Grumman EA-6B Prowler. Republic RF-84 Thunderflash. Republic F-105 Thunderchief. and Fairchild Republic A-10A Thunderbolt II.
The FourLeaf Air Show weekend begins with a fireworks display at Jones Beach on July 4. followed by aerial demonstrations on July 5 and 6. For more information about the air show, click HERE.
