Amazon Prime includes far more than video. From Prime Day timing and members-only discounts to Alexa+, Grubhub+, grocery delivery options, kids content, photo storage, fuel savings, and prescription discounts for select customers—Prime’s value comes with trade
For a lot of people, Amazon Prime starts with streaming. But once you dig past the obvious—once you look at what’s tucked inside the membership—you find a much bigger bundle of perks, from shopping and delivery tweaks to AI-powered voice assistant access.
Prime Video is part of the membership, including originals like Fallout and The Boys. Prime Video also lets members stream sports, including NFL Thursday Night Football and select MMA fights. There’s a catch: these Prime Video plans include commercials. If you want to go ad-free, it costs another $5 per month.
If you’re already paying for Prime, the perks don’t stop when the binge ends. Prime Day is the event people circle on their calendars, and this year it runs June 23 through 26. The expectation is that a secondary Prime Day event will kick off in the fall. and Amazon’s members will see discounts throughout the event.
Prime Day isn’t the only time Prime members can find members-only pricing. Outside of Prime Day. Prime members are eligible for special discounts. which can vary—sometimes a portable charger purchase is discounted. sometimes household essentials get coupon treatment. and sometimes prices on new Amazon devices drop. The promotions show up fairly frequently, but not every deal is a good one.
Another perk that often gets overlooked is early access to Lightning Deals. During and outside of special events like Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, Prime members get to shop 30 minutes before other customers.
Delivery is also where Prime tries to reduce the chaos of daily packages. Amazon Day delivery lets you schedule deliveries to arrive on a certain day of the week. Instead of juggling multiple days and boxes. you can get one package that bundles your orders into the day you prefer. The scheduling doesn’t lock you in. though—if something is needed quickly. you can still opt for the fastest shipping method. The pitch is simple: fewer boxes, less cardboard, and a lower carbon footprint.
At checkout, Prime members can also see options tied to speed—and rewards. With No-Rush Rewards, if you don’t need your order right away, you might get free No-Rush Shipping. Depending on the checkout offer. you could receive a free digital credit to use on things like ebooks or digital games. or an instant discount off your order. You can’t choose which one you get, and sometimes the rewards expire after a certain duration.
Amazon has also pushed deeper into voice and restaurant perks. Alexa+ is included for Alexa+Prime members. It’s Amazon’s newest version of its voice assistant. uses generative AI. and costs $20 per month for non-Prime members when it leaves Early Access. Amazon says it will let people talk naturally and phrase requests however they like. deliver tailored recommendations based on preferences. and help create bedtime stories.
For meals, Grubhub+ comes with Prime membership. It includes free delivery on some delivery orders, plus Prime-exclusive discounts at select restaurants throughout the year.
Grocery and fresh food access is another major thread. Amazon Fresh lets people order groceries via Amazon and get them delivered to their door. though it isn’t available in all areas. It also includes a selection of products from Whole Foods through Amazon Fresh. If you’re shopping at Whole Foods in person. you can scan the smartphone app to get an extra 10 percent off storewide sales and use other member discounts available throughout the year.
For those who want a dedicated grocery subscription, there’s Amazon Grocery, which costs $10 a month or $99 a year. If you have SNAP or EBT benefits, you can get 50 percent off the monthly plan. That subscription includes unlimited free grocery delivery on orders over $25 from Whole Foods Market, Amazon Fresh, and some local retailers.
Prime’s family-sharing features are another place members can feel the difference. Amazon Family lets people share membership perks among multiple people who live together. Benefits can be shared with up to two adults. four teens (ages 13 to 17. added prior to April 2025 or after January 1. 2026 where available). and four children. Parents can use the benefit to approve teens’ orders or set up parental controls on kids’ content. The rules are tied to living arrangements: the perks only extend to people at the same residence.
Reading and gaming perks are layered in, too. Each month. Prime members can use Amazon First Reads to get at least one Kindle book from the selection for free. Nonmembers can get their two books for $2 apiece. Kindle books can be read without a Kindle device thanks to a free app for phones and computers. Prime Reading also adds access to over a thousand Kindle books, plus audiobooks and magazines, and comics via Comixology.
In gaming, Prime Gaming (formerly called Twitch Prime) is where Prime members get monthly rewards. The page redirects to Amazon Luna. but members can keep claiming their monthly rewards. and they also get access to Amazon Luna Standard. a cloud gaming service. Luna provides free access to many popular titles. though streaming games can be “a little buggy. ” and Prime Gaming includes in-game loot. free game downloads. free downloadable content (DLC) and expansions. premium currency. and more. Prime members also get a free Twitch subscription to individual Twitch streamers. which normally cost money—creators earn some money off the subscription. and Prime members can support channels without extra cost.
Even the video game discounts carry a small timeline and a familiar style. Prime members can occasionally get $10 off when they preorder a game. Eligible titles appear when they’re available. and some games also include free Release Day Delivery—members just need to look for that shipping option when preordering.
For people who store memories, Prime includes Amazon Photos with unlimited full-resolution photo storage and 5 gigabytes of video storage. Photos can be stored, printed, and shared using the Amazon Photos app, with backups to the cloud. Printing goes through Shutterfly, where Prime members get a 45 percent discount and free shipping on orders over $35. But there’s a warning baked in: if an account ever loses Prime status. you’ll need to pay at least $2 per month to keep storing photos and videos. so Prime Photos shouldn’t be treated as a primary backup.
Kids get attention as well through Amazon Kids+. Formerly called FreeTime Unlimited. it’s a content service for children compatible with several iOS. Android. and Amazon devices like Fire tablets. It includes parental controls and access to age-appropriate shows, books, games, and more. Amazon Kids+ costs $8 per month, but Prime members can get it for $6 per month, or $79 and $48 per year, respectively.
Prime can even follow you outside the store. By linking an Amazon Prime account to Earnify, a loyalty app owned by BP, members can save at least 10 cents per gallon at over 7,500 participating gas station locations.
There are also perks aimed at specific moments and specific customers. Select Prime members can claim a free Baby Registry Welcome Box by creating a registry with at least 10 unique items and $10 worth of purchases. made by themselves or others. Prime RX offers select customers discounts on prescription medications through a prescription savings card that can be used at pharmacies nationwide. including Amazon Pharmacy.
The prescription savings programs aren’t new—one similar program is GoodRx—and some people argue that sharing medication information adds another layer of privacy concerns. Still. Prime RX savings are described as free if you use it. and it may be worth checking out if you pay a lot out of pocket for prescriptions.
