Alcantara owns record night as Marlins rally past Rangers

Alcantara’s line carried the weight: he improved to 8-4 while allowing one run in 6.2 innings. The crowd of 9. 971 roared for him. he tipped his cap to different sections of the stands. and he kept rolling until his night ended after he walked Nicky López on four pitches following the strikeout of Higashioka.

It wasn’t just the number—it was the rhythm. Alcantara allowed five hits through the first 3.2 innings, then retired 11 straight. After a loss at Toronto on May 26, where he allowed eight runs and 10 hits, he’s now completed at least seven innings in three of his five starts in June.

Miami’s offense gave him room from the start, building a 6-1 lead before the Rangers made a comeback attempt. Heriberto Hernández powered the early momentum with a homer and a double, and Joe Mack and Owen Caissie also went deep for the Marlins.

The game began with Texas striking first in the second inning. Lopez hit an RBI groundout with the bases loaded to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead. Miami answered in the bottom half when Hernández led off with a homer.

Mack then turned the score again. In the fourth inning, he hit a go-ahead solo homer against Rangers reliever José Corniell (0-1), putting the Marlins ahead 2-1. Miami stretched the lead in the fifth with Caissie’s three-run blast and a Mack RBI single.

Late, the Rangers refused to go quiet. Brandon Nimmo led off with a homer in the eighth. and by the time they reached their last out in the ninth. they had chipped away at Miami’s closer Pete Fairbanks. Joc Pederson also homered for a solo shot, and Wyatt Langford was hit by a pitch. Nimmo cut the margin with an RBI triple.

Fairbanks held long enough to end it. Josh Jung hit a drive that was caught at the warning track by centre fielder Jakob Marsee for the final out.

On the other side, Cal Quantrill allowed one run and three hits in two innings—his first start of the season after 15 relief appearances.

With the series set for another chapter, the pitching matchups are clear: RHP Jacob deGrom (6-4, 3.59) will start the series finale for the Rangers on Wednesday, while RHP Eury Pérez (3-6, 4.60) takes the ball for the Marlins.
