Albanese defends $400m fuel relief amid Hezbollah dispute
“We’re dealing with a terrorist organisation – we’re dealing with Hezbollah again. This is a proxy of Iran, a despotic regime that kills not only their own people but other people around the world, and this is what makes it so complicated that I don’t think we can simplify it.” O’Brien said Labor should be credited for gradually reducing the excise cut, while Opposition Leader Angus Taylor was more circumspect, saying he hadn’t seen all the detail. “I understand the logic of having a graduated
taper of this, and as I say, we’ll look at it, but we have been supportive of cuts to the fuel excise from the start,” Taylor said. “In fact, we proposed it in the first place, and Labor copied us.” Taylor said the relief should be offset with cuts from other parts of the budget. Former Nationals leader David Littleproud told Channel Nine’s Today program he welcomed the extension of the fuel excise cut but said “it’s still a kick in the guts” for motorists.
“We haven’t got a lasting peace agreement in the Middle East. This is going to take some time for it to wash through,” he said.

So they’re blaming Hezbollah for gas prices now? Like what does that even have to do with my tank.
I don’t get it. They said it’s $400m fuel relief but then also “offset” from the budget, so is it really helping or just moving money around? Feels like politics as usual.
Hezbollah dispute? I’m pretty sure Hezbollah is the one who controls oil pumps somewhere, right? /s but seriously this reads like they’re making up excuses for the excise cut not being enough.
“Kick in the guts” is right though. If peace isn’t even a thing yet, then why act like the fuel cut is gonna magically fix everything? Also Taylor “copied us” like ok dude, still paying at the bowser either way.
